Who is Jesus Inviting You to Become?
Week Two: If You Knew
Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.” (John 4:10)
In Week One, we discussed to - Expect the Unexpected - when it comes to who Jesus is inviting you to become. The woman at the well didn’t expect to have a conversation with anyone when she went to draw water from the well. But it was beautifully planned and intentional for Jesus to meet her there.
Let’s continue today - Week Two: If You Knew
We find that Jesus immediately started a conversation with the woman at the well. ‘Give me a drink,’ Jesus said to her (John 4:8). Surprised by his request, she lets Jesus know it was not normal for Jews to associate with Samaritans.
She replied, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” she asked him. For Jews do not associate with Samaritans (John 4:9).
Jesus replied by shifting the conversation from temporal to what her heart was longing for.
Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.” (John 4:10)
We all are thirsty and find ourselves drinking water from the wrong wells because we don’t really know the gift of God…we don’t really know the love of Jesus…we don’t really know that Jesus is more than enough.
Do you know the gift of God who wants to give you living water?
In what ways have you been unapproachable to know God?
Have you ever had an, “If I knew,” moment? If you knew what you know now, how would your life be different?
